University Department of Geography at Post-Graduate level was at first established in 1971 at R.D.S. College, Muzaffarpur campus under the dynamic educational performance of Prof. (Dr.) Pratap Sinha. Since then, there was ten sanctioned teaching positions and the number of seats for admission was only twenty-four. After some time the Department was brought in the University Campus. The number of students started increasing with the passage of time. Teaching activities went on progress regularly. Just after some time Prof. (Dr.) Adya Saran was transferred from Patna University to Bihar University, Muzaffarpur and he was appointed as the Head of the Department from 10.09.1971 to 30.11.1982. After his superannuation, Prof. (Dr.) Pratap Sinha was again appointed as the Head of the Department. Prof. (Dr.) Pratap Sinha wrote a book entitled "Geomorphology" and he was succeeded by Prof. (Dr.) T.N.S. Singh, Prof. (Dr.) J.P. Sharma, Prof. (Dr.)Bharat Prasad Mishra, Prof. (Dr.) S.N. Kumar, Prof. (Dr.) P.K. Mishra, and Prof. (Dr.) Kamlesh Prasad. After Dr. Prasad Prof. (Dr.) Muneshwar Singh, Head Department of Geography, Nitishwar Mahavidyalay, Muzaffarpur was appointed as the Head of University Department of Geography, B.R.A.B.U., Muzaffarpur. After his superannuation Dr. J.N. Mishra from R.D.S. College, Muzaffarpur, Dr. K.L. Manjhi from R.C. College, Sakra, Dr. Uma Shankar Singh from Dr. R.L.M.S. College Muzaffarpur and Prof. (Dr.) Ram Pravesh Yadav was appointed as the Head of the university Department of Geography, B.R.A.B.U, Muzaffarpur. After that Prof. (Dr.) Md. Jafar Imam, from University Department of Geography the present Head respectively was appointed as the Head. Syllabus based on semester system on CBCS pattern is running in the University Department of Geography since 2018-2020 session. Now, two Professor Prof. (Dr.) Rupa Kumari and Prof. (Dr.) Pramod Kumar, one Associate Professor Dr. Ida Ella Seema Kerkatta, one Assistant Professor Dr. Shirin Hayat and three Guest teachers Dr. Alpna Jyoti, Dr. Neelambari Gupta and Dr. Rajeshwar Ray are working in the University Department of Geography, B.R.A.B.U., Muzaffarpur.
