Sanskrit Department in one of the oldest department of B.R.A. Bihar University, Muzaffarpur. it was started in L.S. College, Muzaffarpur in the year 1899. Professor like Prof. Sri Ram Jha Das Rai, Prof. Surendra Nath Majundar, Prof. Uma Nath Jha and Prof. Sheetal Prasad Shukla gave their valuable time and career to build the reputation of Sanskrt Department. Post Graduate teaching in L.S. College was started in session 1951-52 under the headship of Prof. Ram Narayan Sharma. I was then under Patna University, Patna Post Graduate Department of Sanskrit was bifurcated from L.S. College in 1976 and brought to new language block in 1982 under the headship of Prof. Hari Prapanna Dwivedi. The P.G. Sanskrit department has the distinguished honour to provide Four President awardedds, Three Vice-Chancellors and three Pro-Vice Chancellor in recent past. This department has its glorious past. Teachers of national repute Prof. Surendra Brahmchari, Prof. Mahavir Pathak, Prof. B.N. Jha, Prof. Satish Chandra Jha has served this department.
Present HOD of Sanskrit Prof. Manoj Kumar has served as a Controller of Examination and Registrar of B.R.A. Bihar University, Muzaffarpur. His service as a Controller of Examination & Registrar was memorable. He is also external expert of D.R.C. and is also member of First count of M.G. Central University, Motihari. Another working teacher Prof. Shripraksh Pandey was the member of Executive Council of Central Sanskrit University, New Delhi nominated by Hnourable Chancellor.
