The Physics Department at B.R.A. Bihar University, Muzaffarpur, India, was established in 1953 at L.S. College, Muzaffarpur. In 1979, the postgraduate department was relocated to its current building. Since its inception, the department has maintained strong traditions in teaching and research. Currently, the department is staffed by 4 Professors, 3 Assistant Professors, 2 Guest Lecturers, and approximately 20 research scholars.
The department offers a four-semester M.Sc. postgraduate program under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) with an intake capacity of 93 students. It also provides a Ph.D. program in various areas of experimental and theoretical physics. The department's seminar library holds over 5,000 reference books for academic use.
